ernakulam: The CPM is preparing to lend money and files a complaint against the head of Ekm | Kochi News

KOCHI: As Kochi is set to host the CPM state conference from March 1-4, allegations including the criminal backgrounds and money lending activities of Ernakulam district leaders, give headaches to the local party leadership. A CPM Ernakulam district committee meeting will be held on Tuesday to discuss these complaints and take action.
The most serious complaint is that a woman, whose family members are CPM sympathizers, was assaulted by a member of the Ernakulam area committee in a heinous manner. There have been several complaints against this leader who is allegedly engaged in money lending and real estate.
According to a complaint the woman filed in the Kerala High Court in 2018, three identifiable people broke into her house at around 8:30 p.m. on October 24, 2017 and attacked her while she was home alone. “They also poured molten candle wax over his naval and private parts,” referring to his allegations, according to the High Court judgment delivered on July 8, 2018. Approving his request for the case to be heard by the criminal branch as the local police delay the investigation, the High Court ordered the criminal branch to investigate the case. So far, the investigation has not progressed.
It was in this context that the woman had lodged a complaint with the Ernakulam district committee. According to party sources, she named the Ernakulam regional committee member as the main defendant in the case. “He has been involved in real estate and money lending for years. The woman had borrowed money from the wife of the regional committee member. As she did not repay the amount, the chef attacked her,” sources said.
According to the complaint she filed with the police, three identifiable people broke into her home. Her husband and son were not home at the time. “They tore her dress, put plaster on her mouth, sprayed chemicals on her eyes and hit various parts of her body with a helmet,” the high court referred to her complaint in delivering the judgment.
Another issue the district committee could discuss is the involvement of an SFI leader in the attack on a party member in Alangad, near northern Paravoor. A few days ago, goons broke into a party member’s house and attacked him and his brother. It was the head of the SFI who allegedly sent the location of the victim’s house by mobile phone.
